Every US venture fund, from the filing up

Every US venture fund tells the SEC when it starts raising. Almost nobody reads those filings. We read all of them, every night, and work out which firm is behind each one.

8,590 firms. 68,362 filings. Every number on this site links to the document it came from.

This went out at 6am today

The morning email: every new fund filed that day, the firm behind it, its administrator and auditor where Form ADV names them, and the firms we called past due before they filed. Every row links to the filing. Free seven days behind, or at 6am with a seat.

Free. One email a day at most, and an unsubscribe link in every one.

Which venture firms are about to raise

A Form D is filed within 15 days of a fund’s first sale, so the filing is the end of the story, not the start. A firm’s own history is the part that runs early.

Called so far: 10. Ballistic Ventures, Otherwise Fund and Longwood Fund were on this list, due by their own history, before they filed. The record.

Every firm here has closed at least three funds, so the interval is its own. The bar shows where it stands in that interval; the month is what its rhythm points at. No rumours, no surveys — arithmetic on 68,362 filings, each one a click away.

A firm past twice its own gap is left off the list: at that distance the honest word is quiet, not due.

Checked on history: replayed on 2015–2025 using only what was public at the time, about 1 in 4 firms on this list filed a new fund within a year — 1.6× the average, and about 1 in 3 for the high-confidence tier. The test, including what failed.

Due by month: November · December · January · February · all months & scorecards

And the filings themselves, every morning

Filed Wednesday 4 November 2026 · 8 funds

A fund files this form within 15 days of taking its first money. So every row here is a raise that has already started, usually before anything is announced. We read the SEC index the night it appears.

What the filings say

The filings are public. These are the questions we answer with them.

Past due for a new fund

120

of 625 firms with a measurable rhythm

  • Firms whose last fund closed longer ago than their own typical gap between funds — where a raise usually starts.

Raising a first fund

601

first fund filed within 18 months

  • Firms managing outside capital for the first time, as far as the public record shows. No incumbent anything.

Every firm behind the filings

8,590 US venture firms, resolved from 56,327 fund vehicles across 68,362 Form D filings. Each page: every vehicle on file, when the firm last closed a fund, and the filings behind both. Rebuilt quarterly; the feed has anything newer.

    Who made this

vcspine is built by SparkIntell Inc., a small product studio in Texas. We built it because the existing investor databases answer “does this firm exist” and none of them answer “what is it doing right now”, which is the only question that matters if your job is to reach a fund early.

Every number here is traceable to a public SEC filing. If something about your firm is wrong, write to hello@vcspine.com and we will correct it.

What this is. Every figure on this page comes from Form D filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission — public records, reproduced here as filed. Service providers, where shown, come from the adviser’s Form ADV and are dated.

What it is not. Single-deal SPVs, feeder vehicles and GP or employee commitment funds are listed but excluded from fund counts and capital totals: an SPV is one investment, a feeder holds the same capital as its master, and a “Principals” or “Entrepreneurs” fund closes alongside a main fund rather than being raised in its own right. Capital deployed from a family office, a corporate balance sheet or an evergreen structure never arrives as a fund close, so a firm doing that looks quiet here. Amounts are as of the last amendment and go stale. Dates are the date of first sale — a fund's first close, not its final one. Funds filed as “Indefinite” are excluded from totals rather than counted as zero, so a total is a floor.

“No recent fund” is a statement about filings. It is not a statement about whether a firm is solvent, investing, or still in business.
